Electronic Data Interchange - Client

Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) is a standard for the exchange of information between disparate systems. From a client perspective, this means the automation of warehouse order and replenishment notifications.

CDS is flexible in terms of the both the format used (proprietary formats have been implemented to meet client systems needs) and the communications method. Secure Internet protocols such as AS2 or AS3, FTP (either via a CDS-hosted or client-hosted server), or a traditional EDI Value-Added Network are offered as options for communications.

Warehouse Replenishments (Inbounds)

Warehouse replenishments are typically transmitted via an Advance Ship Notice (containing more detailed pallet-level information) or a Warehouse Replenishment (943) document -- both provide information that can be used to check the order as a part of the receiving process.

Warehouse Orders

Warehouse orders (new, change, cancel) are transmitted via a Warehouse Order (940) document. The Warehouse Shipment Notification (945) and Advance Shipment Notice (856, a more detailed 945 containing order configuration information) document can be transmitted back after the order ships.

Inventory Advice and Adjustment Activity

Inventory status (inventory levels with optional categorization by 'bucket') is transmitted via the Inventory Inquiry/Advice (846) document. Inventory adjustment information is transmitted via the Warehouse Inventory Adjustment Advice (947) document.
