Electronic Data Interchange - ConsigneeElectronic Data Interchange (EDI) is a standard for the exchange of information between disparate systems. From a consignee perspective, this means the automation of warehouse order shipment information to enable automated receipts.
CDS is flexible in terms of the both the format used (proprietary formats have been implemented to meet client systems needs) and the communications method. Secure Internet protocols such as AS2 or AS3, FTP (either via a CDS-hosted or consignee-hosted server), or a traditional EDI Value-Added Network are offered as options for communications. Warehouse Order ShipmentsThe Advance Ship Notice (856) document is used to notify the consignee of order shipment. CDS has already implemented documents for the larger retail chains. These documents are usually sent in conjunction with pallet labels to enable automated receipt at the receiving location.
