Receive

It is CDS' responsibility to make sure your product is transferred to us in a controlled manner. Our objectives during this stage are to accept your product with no damage, accurately prepare the product for our inventory tracking system, and store the product based on its likelihood of shipment. The following procedures are used to satisfy these objectives.

Blind Receiving

Our forklift drivers are not provided with information concerning inbound SKUs or quantities; what they receive is compared automatically with system data to check receiving accuracy. Discrepancies immediately trigger a second-level check procedure.

Forklift Training

All CDS forklift operators must complete an intensive three-week forklift and safety certification curriculum before handling any product independently. This training promotes product integrity throughout its lifetime at CDS.

System Preparation

Every pallet or partial pallet is assigned a bar code "license plate" -- SKU, quantity, and batch date code information is associated with this product during the receiving process via handheld or equipment-mounted RF terminals. This key step allows the product to be tracked throughout the distribution center.

Directed Putaway

Where your product is stored in our facility means something: is it going to be here a while, a few days or weeks, or cross-docked immediately for an urgent shipment? CDS uses the answers to questions like this to determine where to store the product in order to decrease the time it will take to retrieve and ship.
